The Oval Pavilion Development

The Oval Pavilion which is located adjacent to the Main Oval on campus has deteriorated over many years and is no longer fit for the purpose required. In order to provide a quality venue for the university sporting clubs and the broader University community it is proposed to demolish the existing building, with the exception of the heritage listed turret and social room, and develop a modern pavilion.

The new pavilion will upgrade the current social space for use by the clubs utilising the Main Oval and also provide an additional and larger function space. The new function space will be available for use by all sporting clubs, the broader University community and also the alumni and general community for formal functions to generate income to support sporting programs across the University. The new pavilion will also provide enhanced change facilities incorporating rehabilitation areas and equipment storage.

The pavilion will be a significant University landmark and will be a leading sporting facility within both the community and university sporting sectors. The project is currently in the feasibility stage with a view to commence construction at the latest in early 2013. The relevant sporting clubs and user groups will be kept informed and arrangements put in place during the construction period to minimise any disruption.

The University of Melbourne and MU Sport gratefully acknowledge the support of the alumni donors and the Australian Football League in their support of this key, sporting capital project.
