The 1856 Club: Supporting the future of cricket at the University of Melbourne

Maintaining a healthy funding position is integral to maintaining and evolving cricket at the University of Melbourne. There are two primary fundraising pathways for donors to consider in support of University cricket

  1. Supporting the immediate needs of participation in cricket at the University.
  2. Supporting the long-term sustainability of the MUCC (the Ern Cropley Cricket Sub-Fund)

Supporting MUCC’s long-term sustainability – The Ern Cropley Cricket Sub Fund

The Ern Cropley Cricket Sub Fund of the Melbourne University Sport Foundation helps generate a corpus endowment focused on the long-term maintenance of cricket at the University of Melbourne.

About the Melbourne University Sport Foundation

The Melbourne University Sport Foundation (Sport Foundation) is a trust established by the University, with the University as trustee, to receive donations, bequests and other funds for the advancement of sport at the University.

In 2017, the Melbourne University Cricket Club chose to establish a Sub-Fund of the Sport Foundation, known as the Ern Cropley Cricket Sub-Fund.

All gifts to the Ern Cropley Cricket Sub-Fund are invested for the long term in the University’s Gift Investment Portfolio with distributions from the investment made available for the use of the Melbourne University Cricket Club.

The Ern Cropley Sub Fund aims to distribute between 4.5% and 5.5% of net annual income to MUCC to support cricket initiatives. In years where the returns of the Gift Investment Portfolio exceed 5.5%, the remainder is returned to the Ern Cropley Cricket Sub-Fund capital.
