More Sport in 2021

The gradual return of sport to the University will continue into next year, with fitness facility, club and program use set to expand as students return to campus.

See below for planned improvements to our opening hours in 2021.

Facility Access update - Monday 7 December

Thanks to the collective effort behind containing the spread of COVID-19 in Victoria, capacity limits and entry restrictions at the Beaurepaire Centre and Nona Lee Sports Centre will improved from 7 December!


Beaurepaire Centre

  • Increase capacity to 150 patrons at a time
  • QR code system will be used for check IN and OUT to monitor building capacity
  • Removal of pre-booking system and 45 minute workout time – stay as long as you want!
  • Re-open Changerooms and communal use areas such as water fountains
  • The pay-per-visit system to access the gym will remain. All direct debit and payroll deduction fitness memberships will remain indefinitely suspended until further notice. If you wish to reactivate your membership instead of paying per visit, please contact our memberships team.

FITNESS IS BACK!

The Beaurepaire Centre Gym has reopened for individual workouts, now with no area restrictions or bookings needed!

Access can be done via walk-up during our opening hours listed further down the page and here.

Casual pricing will still be applied (see price list further down). All memberships are currently on suspension. If you would like to reactivate your membership, please email Guest Services Coordinator Maria Barres. Please note spaces are limited and holding a membership does not guarantee a spot in a session/class.

Some key items to note for these sessions:

  • Access to toilets, showers and change room facilities has returned
  • Drinking fountains and bubblers have been turned off – bring your own full water bottle
  • A full-size towel is mandatory for all gym sessions. If you do not have a full-size towel you will not be able to participate in your booking. Your towel must be used as a barrier between you and any equipment that you sit, recline, or lie down on, including the floor/ground
  • You will be required to wipe down equipment that you have used at the end of your session. We will provide sanitizer spray and wipes after you have used it

Strength and Cardio

Upstairs Beaurepaire Centre Gym

A broad range of cardio equipment including Treadmills, Elliptical trainers, Stairmaster, Upright bikes, Spin bikes, Hoist pin-loaded strength training equipment, free weights, squat rack with Olympic bar and plates, dumbells, pre-set barbells, and adjustable benches.

Downstairs Beaurepaire Centre Gym

A selection of cardio equipment including One Non Electrical Treadmill, Rowers, MAX Trainer steppers, Air dyne bikes, Bike ergs, Hoist pin-loaded strength training equipment, Hammer Strength racks for Deadlifts, Squats, and Bench Press, Hammer strength 45-degree leg press and a larger space for a range of free weights and adjustable benches.

Casual prices and access

As we return to providing fitness activities on campus, a casual payment system will be implemented as an interim measure until we are able to offer a more complete range of services, programs and facilities.

All memberships are currently on suspension. If you would like to reactivate your membership, please email Guest Services Coordinator Maria Barres. Please note spaces are limited and holding a membership does not guarantee a spot in a session/class.

*To qualify for Student or Staff rates you must present your current University of Melbourne Student or Staff card on arrival.

FREE Gym sessions for students

Selected sessions in the gym will be available as FREE for University of Melbourne students.

FREE SESSIONS:

  • Wednesday - 6:30pm-8:00pm

Students may only access one free class per week. The normal booking process, terms and conditions apply.

Accessing the gym

Entry to the gym will be via the main entrance to the Beaurepaire Centre.

To access the gym you'll need to bring your phone (with an App to scan a QR code) and follow these instructions:

  1. Open your phone camera and hover over the provided QR code
  2. Click on the pop up to go to 'visitance.net'
  3. Complete the registration process including all details
  4. Show your completed registration to the staff member at the entry point
  5. Scan the code upon exit to register your exit

A staff member will be onsite to assist

Keeping you safe at MU Sport

We have put a number of social distancing and cleaning measures in place to keep you safe while you are working out!

Please remember the following before your workout:

  • Wear a mask when you arrive for the class
  • You are always required to wear a mask during your workout unless you are performing intensive cardio workouts. (eg. When using cardio equipment)
  • Drinking fountains and bubblers have been turned off – bring your own full water bottle
  • A full-size towel is mandatory for all outdoor fitness classes. If you do not have a full-size towel you will not be able to participate in your booking. Your towel must be used as a barrier between you and any equipment that you sit, recline, or lie down on, including the floor/ground
  • In addition to a towel, we encourage you to bring your own yoga or exercise mat

Once you’ve arrived at MU Sport for your session, remember the following:

  • Follow the MU Sport staff instructions at all times
  • You will be required to wipe down equipment that you have used at the end of your session. We will provide sanitizer spray and wipes after you have used it. Our staff will supervise and assist
