MU Sport joins with the University Blacks Football Club to mourn the passing of Frank Dunin.
Frank started playing for the University Blacks after coming to the University to study agriculture, but was quickly recruited by Richmond Football Club to play in the Victorian Football League in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Frank returned to the Blacks as coach, leading the club to back-to-back B and A Grade flags in 1964-5, and the victorious VAFA Carnival team in 1967.
Frank combined his lifelong involvement with football with a stellar professional life. Upon graduating Frank quickly established himself as the expert on water and soil conservation with the Soil Conservation Authority. In 1968 he was lured to Canberra by the CSIRO, which became his lifelong employer. While in Canberra and later in Perth Frank continued his football involvement with Manuka and Claremont. He and his wife Val retired to Benalla which allowed more visits to watch Blacks games.
