Anastasia's story

Anastasia was drawn to artistic swimming because the discipline combined her two interests—gymnastics and swimming. Growing up, she idolised gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci of Romania who won five gold medals at the Montreal and Moscow Olympics.

Now, second-year Science student Putu Anastasia Kusmawan has made her Olympic debut with the Australian Artistic Swimming Team. Anastasia qualified for the Paris Games with a 10th-place finish with the Australian team at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships in Japan. The team won two silver medals and one bronze at the World Aquatics Cup in Beijing in April and finished ninth in Paris.

Her Junior Coach, Anna Nepatocheva, believed that Anastasia had it in her to reach the Olympic stage from day one. After her silver medal win in the U12 Solo at the 2017 Synchronised Swimming Championships, the coach said "Anastasia is one of the next exciting generation of gifted synchro athletes,” “If she continues to develop with the same degree of dedication and enjoyment of her sport, she is definitely one to watch out for at future Olympics.”
