1856 Cricket Scholarship

The 1856 Cricket Scholarship offers up to $5,000 annually to a male and female University of Melbourne student cricketer.

The 1856 Cricket Scholarship supports student-athletes to balance their academic studies with their cricket endeavours. Successful scholarship recipients will be emerging cricketers with the capacity to play 1st XI Premier Cricket (or equivalent in MUCC’s Women’s section), alongside their studies at the University of Melbourne.

Scholarship details


Applicants should be student-athletes who are:

  • Emerging cricketers committed to playing Premier Cricket with the Melbourne University Cricket Club (MUCC)
  • Committed to representing the University in intervarsity competition (against other Australian universities)
  • Currently enrolled at the University of Melbourne.

Scholarship recipient responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the club beyond their on-field pursuits. This includes involvement in the following for the duration of their studies at the University of Melbourne:

  • MUCC Academy Program (off-season commitment)
  • Coaching responsibility (with one of MUCC Dowling/ U18/ Marg Jennings and equivalent)
  • MUCC representative at Melbourne University Sport Clubs Day
  • Uphold the values of MUCC both inside and outside of the club – as a representative for MUCC throughout Victorian cricket.

The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress
