Ian Marshman the former Senior Vice-Principal (Chief Operating Officer) at the University has been appointed as the new chair of the MU Sport Advisory Board taking over from Professor James Angus.

Ian graduated from the University with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in 1971 before completing a Bachelor of Laws at ANU in 1975. He then commenced work at the Federal Department of Health in Canberra before moving back to Melbourne as a Regional Director at the Victorian Health Department.

In 1990, Ian returned to the University as Academic Registrar prior to his appointment as the Senior Vice-Principal in 1999, a role he held until his retirement in 2015. During this time Ian led a number of significant organisational reviews and oversight of major university projects, including the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and Buxton Gallery at Southbank. Ian remains a well-respected commentary on Higher Education issues with regular articles appearing in the media.

As Academic Register, Ian had oversight of MU Sport for a number of years and was a member of the Sport and Physical Recreation Committee (SPRC), the previous governing body for sport at the University. Ian has a Blue in Lacrosse and long-standing connections with many of the sporting alumni and is ideally suited to lead the continued development of sport at the University.
