The University of Melbourne put up a promising performance at the 2024 UniSport Nationals Athletics championship, which was held at the Gold Coast in the last week of April. Both the men’s and the women’s teams finished fifth in the competition that saw participation from 450 student-athletes from 38 Australian universities.

The Winged Victory team had the largest contingent at the event alongside the eventual overall winners The University of Sydney. The squad returned with four golds, two silvers and three bronze medals.

The 400m Women’s event was the biggest highlight for the University from the trip to Queensland with its athletes claiming the top two positions on the podium. It was Sophia Gregorevic who took the gold with a timing of 54.53, while Ella Tobin finished just behind her to secure the silver medal. Melbourne’s dominance in the 400m events was stamped with the Women’s 4x400m team winning another gold on the final day.

On the field, Roman Anastasios recorded his Season’s Best performance to take out the Men’s High Jump title. The final gold medal came through Char Hay, who finished as the champion in the Women’s 5000m Race Walk.
