The Women’s State League 2 team from the Melbourne University Water Polo Club had an impressive final game, with an 6–4 victory over Richmond 18s to maintain their position on top of the ladder going into finals. We wish them luck as they play Monash Penguins in the Grand Final this Tuesday 18 June at 7:45PM at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre. For more details, head to their Facebook event. The Men’s State League 1-2 Combined team were defeated 3–9 by NYP Dragons Blue, unfortunately knocking them out of contention for the finals.

Athletes from the Melbourne University Athletics Club took a break from their exam studies over the weekend to compete at the Victorian State Cross Country Championships in Bundoora. Running a 10km course, MUAC had some great individual results from Ciara Boyd-Squires Long (11th) and Elly Benson (17th) in the Open Women’s Championship, and Frankie Conway (19th) in the Open Men’s. After suffering a big loss in their previous game, the Grade A Men from the Melbourne University Baseball Club were keen to redeem themselves over the weekend. They managed this with a 3–1 win over Watsonia, moving them into 3rd place on the ladder.

In the Big V competition, the Melbourne University Basketball Club Division 2 Women’s team posted a 68–50 victory over the North East Bushrangers. Impressive performances were seen from Amelie Smith and Emmie O’Nial, who both scored 17 points and made over 10 rebounds each to guarantee an easy win.

Continuing the theme of big wins, the Melbourne University Hockey Club’s Women’s State League 1 team had an incredible victory over WestVic 1, defeating them 11–1. The extra percentage boost moves them up to 1st place on the ladder, on equal points with the Mornington Peninsula Hockey Club.

The Melbourne University Lightning added to what was an impressive week for Women’s sport with a comfortable 24 goal victory over Boroondara Express in the Bupa VNL competition, defeating them 56–34. Currently in 6th place on the ladder, MU Lightning looks to win as many of the remaining six games of the Home–Away season as possible to guarantee a spot in the finals.

The Melbourne University Rugby Football Club had an impressive win over Moorabbin in the Men’s Dewar Shield competition, defeating them 38–20. Now halfway through their season, the team sits in 4th place overall.

The Melbourne University Soccer Club had a successful weekend, with both Men’s and Women’s teams posting big wins. The Women’s State League 1 team managed a 5–0 win over Keilor Park SC, putting them into 1st place on the ladder at the end of Round 9. The Men’s State League 4 team had a comfortable 3–1 win on the weekend, defeating Truganina Hornets SC to move into 3rd place.

Finally, fresh from a week off over the long weekend, the Melbourne University Renegades Volleyball Club Premier Men’s team had an easy 3–0 win over Mazenod Volleyball Club. With another bye scheduled, the Premier Women’s team were given some well-deserved time to rest and study for exams.
