7 March 2019
Melbourne University Sport is proud to announce the launch of our Strong Women Program.
The Strong Women Program promotes the meaningful inclusion of women students across all levels of sport and active recreation at MU Sport – as participants, athletes, managers, leaders, coaches, umpires, and volunteers.
Through the provision of participation and leadership opportunities, the Program will foster a gender-equitable environment at MU Sport in which our women students can prosper, and where women’s achievements in sport are proactively promoted and celebrated.
The Program provides free sporting, recreational, and fitness opportunites for women students, including an Introduction to Strength Training, Cardio Tennis, Indoor Cycling – Sprint ™ and Recreational Sport through Mountaineering Club day trips.
It also incorporates the Strong Women Network, which provides opportunities for women students to develop crucial leadership and vocational skills, networks and career pathway opportunities through a sport mentoring program.
MU Sport affiliated clubs can also apply to the Women in Sport Fund for financial support (up to $500 per student and up to $1000 per club) for initiatives which demonstrate a commitment to ensuring gender equity, and which will positively impact women student’s participation, leadership and/or performance in sport.
To coincide with the launch of the program on International Women's Day, Friday 8 March 2019, all group fitness classes will be free for women students. To register, attend reception 30 mins prior to the class start time, present your student card and fill out a casual user form. Remember to bring a gym towel.
