Sam's story

World Champion and science alumn Sam Williamson will be a serious medal contender in the pool. His first major global success came at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where he won the gold in the 4x100m mixed medley. He also bagged two silvers and a bronze medal at the event. He followed that up with a silver and bronze at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Japan – both in team events.

But, the biggest moment of his career so far came at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, where he took out the Gold Medal in Men’s 50m breaststroke. He also won a silver in the 4x100m mixed medley at the event.

As both the National and World Champion in the category, the 50m breaststroke is Sam’s primary category. However, it is not an Olympic event. But that was not going to keep him from finding a way to Paris. Sam secured his spot for the event by finishing first in the 100m breaststroke at the Australian Olympic Trials.
