Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship

The Jopling Family Rowing Scholarships are Australia’s preeminent university rowing scholarships

Created to attract the best and brightest rowers to study and row at the University of Melbourne, the two scholarships provide financial support of up to $25,000 per year (plus further in-kind support) for up to four years, depending on the course of study of the scholarship recipient.

Applications for the Jopling Family Rowing Scholarship will reopen on 1 September 2025.

The Scholarship

The Jopling Family Rowing Scholarships will attract the highest calibre of student to the University of Melbourne. Successful scholarship applicants will have demonstrated community leadership, be strong academically and be highly talented rowers. The scholarships aim to provide future generations with an opportunity to excel, in the expectation that it will inspire them, in turn, to give back to their communities.

The Scholarship Selection Committee is looking for students who can demonstrate:

  • Academic excellence and the pursuit of life-long learning
  • Sporting endeavour in the sport of rowing
  • Leadership qualities that espouse active citizenship and a commitment to helping others

The Jopling Family

The Jopling Family Scholarships have been made possible due to the generosity of Mr Peter Jopling AM QC (LLB) in honour of his father, Mr John Jopling Jr and his passion for education and rowing. Mr Jopling is passionate about the importance of a quality education and the life-changing impact that such an education can have on an individual. Mr Jopling’s other great passion is the sport of rowing and its connection to the pursuit of a healthy and rewarding life.
