In light of the impact of COVID-19, Rugby AU has released a statement postponing the 2020 Aon Uni 7’s series . This is in line with a review of the Rugby AU elite women’s program, to line up with the rescheduling of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Women’s World cup, both scheduled for 2021. There will be further information released by Rugby AU and UniSport Australia in the coming weeks, around the opportunity for regional-based competitions later in the year, pending government health advice.
It is a blow for the Melbourne University student-athletes and squad members who were looking forward to the upcoming season, but the squad remains upbeat in these unique times. There are opportunities to train and play with the Melbourne University Rugby Club when activity resumes locally, and the squad and any new interested student-athletes will resume training for Aon 7’s later in 2020.
