The Premier Men’s Volleyball side came from behind to defeat Yarra Ranges, advancing to this weekend’s grand final. The side dropped the opening set, but fought back to win the next three sets consecutively to ensure a grand final showdown against the Southern Cross Cobras this Saturday 17 August. The Premier Women’s side will also play in the grand final this weekend against rivals Monash University.
Congratulations to the Kendo Club which picked up a slew of medals at the 2019 Victorian Kendo Championships. The Club’s members scored six golds, four silvers and a bronze at the annual event, including 1st in the Men’s and Women’s Kyu teams. In individual results, Nicole Saccardo won gold in the Women’s Kyu, Julie Tran came first in the Women’s Dan, and Tomonori Sakai earned gold in the Men’s Dan.
In Hockey, the Women’s VIC League 1 team stretched its winning streak to eight after earning an enormous 11 – 0 win over the MHSOB Hockey Club. The side have lost only once this season and conceded just 10 goals to sit 8-points clear on top of the ladder with just two rounds remaining.
Undefeated after 13 matches, the Women’s State League 1 Soccer team continued its hot streak over the weekend, defeating a hapless Ballarat City FC 6 – 0. Chloe Romero nabbed a brace, while captain Lauren Thompson backed up last week’s double with another goal to take her tally to 12 for the season.
It was another clean sweep weekend in Football, as the VFLW, Blues and Blacks each scored wins. In the VFLW, the Mugars earned a 7.2 – 44 to 4.6 – 30 win over the Geelong Cats despite going into half-time a point down. Jasmine Garner was dominant with 31 touches, ten marks, nine tackles and a goal to earn best on ground honours. The Blues remained atop the VAFA Premier ladder after cruising to a comfortable 50-point win over Collegians, while the 3rd-placedBlacks defeated the Old Haileyburians by 62 points in Premier B.
