Congratulations to the Women’s SL1 Reserves Soccer team who won their second consecutive premiership over the weekend with four games in hand, as they won 4 – 0 over the Moreland Zebras. The side did not lose or draw a single game, winning 12 straight to put themselves nine points ahead of second-placed Preston Lions, who have just two matches remaining. Bonny Scott notched a brace while Isabella Gonzalez and Noura Tawfic scored a goal each. The Women’s SL1 Seniors side advanced one step closer to a title of their own, winning 5 – 2 over Moreland to hold a four-point lead at the top of the table with four matches remaining. Captain Lauren Thompson struck two goals in the first half.
Both Premier Volleyball sides advanced in their respective finals’ series. The Women’s side went straight into the grand final by winning 3 – 0 over Yarra Ranges, given the team’s first place finish, while the Men’s team will play Yarra Ranges next week after defeating Monash University 3 – 0.
With one round left before finals, the Tennis Club’s Women’s Pennant 2 team sit atop the ladder after earning a convincing 3.6 – 41 to 1.2 – 23 victory away at Bulleen. The side will play at home against MCC Glen Iris Valley this weekend.
The Cycling Club’s Rafael Ungar came 1st in the Men’s B-grade event at the Footscray Cycling Club’s Winter Criteriums, earning a promotion to A-grade, while Ungar’s clubmate David Randall came 7th in the A-grade.
In Australian Rules Football, the University Blues inflicted one of the biggest drubbings in recent VAFA Premier history over Old Carey, scoring 25 goals to win 25.30 – 180 to 4.5-29. The Blues restricted their opposition to just 0.3 – 3 at three-quarter-time, while the final score line could have been even worse had the side converted more of its 30 behinds into goals.
Despite going down 12 – 27 against Moorabbin, the Men’s Senior Rugby side earned its first finals berth since 2015 in the Dewar Shield after finishing fourth in the home-and-away season and will play Box Hill Rugby Club this weekend in a semi-final. The Club’s Men’s 3rds will also play finals this year.
