The Melbourne University Soccer Club Women’s State League 1 team continued their season long winning streak this weekend as they emphatically defeated Hoppers Crossing 23 - 1. Chloe Romero was unstoppable on the field, scoring a phenomenal 6 goals for the match. This win cements their first place ladder position as they head into round 12 of the season against the Eltham Redbacks. The Men's State League 4 team also brought home a strong 4 goal win against Westside Strikers Caroline Springs SC.
The Basketball Club also had a successful weekend in the BigV competition, with both the Women’s and the Men’s sides claiming outstanding wins. The Division 2 Women’s team took the court to outmatch the Pakenham Warriors by 4 points, with 20 of these points scored by star player Amelia Smith in her 150th BigV match. The team confidently head into the latter end of the season with a 10 match winning streak and first place ladder position. For his 200th Big V game, Division 1 Men’s captain Stefan Pomasan lead his team to a 93 - 88 win against Latrobe City Energy on Saturday. They followed this up with another convincing win on Sunday against Bulleen Boomers 79 - 72.
Following a 30 point loss last weekend, the University Blacks Football Club were keen to redeem themselves on Saturday, as they comfortably defeated Monash Blues 7.15 - 57 to 2.9 - 21 in VAFA Premier B. The side will size up against Fitzroy FC this Saturday, hoping for another successful match. The weekend also saw the University Blues Football Club claim their 8th win for the season in the William Buck Premier league, in a thrilling 4-point defeat of St Kevin's. They now sit comfortably at second place on the ladder ahead of a Round 12 contest against De La Salle this weekend.
The Hockey Club’s Women’s State League 1 team were unstoppable against North West Lightning on Saturday with their dominating 8-goal win. They now boast 10 wins for the season and remain the team to beat as they sit on top of the ladder. Once again, Florine Van Grimbergen helped secure the team’s resounding win by scoring an incredible 5 goals. Impressively, she has also been selected for the Hockey Club Melbourne’s 2019 Womens Squad.
In the Dewar Shield competition, the Rugby Club outclassed Endeavour Hills with a 41 - 10 win. They will face a tough game this weekend against the undefeated Melbourne 1st XV.
The Volleyball Club followed up last weekend’s success with another round of wins. The Men’s Renegades brought home a confident 3-1 victory against the Eastside Hawks in the Premier Division. Meanwhile, the Women’s Premier side secured an easy 3 - 0 win against Heidelberg. This secures an impressive 10 out of 10 wins for the season. Watch out for them this weekend as they take on Yarra Ranges.
