Campbell's story
Former student Campbell Harrison was one of the first athletes to be confirmed for Team Australia for the Paris Olympics. The qualification was an incredibly emotional moment for Campbell as he has been chasing this dream for eight years.
Although climbing started as a hobby for Campbell, when the sport made it to the Olympics, he was motivated to be there too. He was well placed to find a spot for the Tokyo Olympics, but unfortunately for Campbell, the pandemic struck at the wrong time. Interstate border closures and his sister’s cancer diagnosis made him decide to give up the chance to secure a qualification to be with his family.
Campbell is a proud gay sportsperson and wants to inspire other LGBTQI athletes to not let their queerness be a barrier to sporting success.
