First-year Bachelor of Commerce student Pierre Davis has been named this year's Rugby Young Achiever Award (RYAA) recipient.

The RYAA is a partnership scholarship with the Melbourne University Rugby Football Club (MURFC). It supports a first-year student who embodies the characteristics of Alumnus Sir Edward 'Weary' Dunlop: leadership, academic endeavour and sporting excellence in rugby union.

Davis, who completed Year 12 at St Kevin's College, was named the RYAA recipient after a competitive selection process.

"I am grateful and honoured to receive the Young Achiever Award and to join the University's Rugby community", said Davis.

"The award is a great opportunity to pursue my academic and sporting goals."

The award offers a sporting scholarship of $5,000 plus a range of support through the University's Elite Athlete Program.

Pierre has already become accustomed to the strength and training options available at the University.

"It is awesome to have access to the strength and conditioning facilities on campus. I've already started working with Ben Andrews [Strength and Conditioning Coach] to plan my training schedule while studying."

Pierre will follow in his father's footsteps to play with the University's Rugby Club.

The Rugby Club competes in Victoria State Rugby Union competitions, including the Dewar Shield, Lindroth Cups and Colts competitions.
