The University's Sporting community is saddened by the passing of Mr Alf Lazer AM.
Alf lived a life of service to University Sport, having started studying at the University in the 1940s. He was a University Blue in 1951-52 and served as President of the Athletics Club for 31 years. He was also closely involved with the Melbourne University Sports Association over the years.
Alf went on to roles with UniSport Australia and the International Federation of University Sport and is an honorary life member of both groups. The University also awarded Alf a gold medal for exceptional service to the University in 2010.
Alf celebrated his 100th birthday in November last year and we reflected on his unrivalled contributions to Sport at the University at our Blues and Sport awards which were held on the same day as his birthday.
A memorial event will be held at 2:30pm on Wednesday 18 February at the Ernie Cropley Pavilion. All members of the University community are invited to attend.
