For the third year, this University of Melbourne scholarship will support up-and-coming student-athletes as they strive to reach their athletic and academic potential. The Andrew and Geraldine Buxton Athletics Scholarship will assist an aspiring student-athlete to simultaneously pursue their world-class academic and sporting dreams at Australia’s number one ranked university.
The scholarship is the first elite athlete scholarship of its kind in Australia to be established in perpetuity by a donor and provides significant support for rising track and field talent to remain in Australia.
2017 scholarship recipient Regan Lamble utilised the support to complete her Graduate Diploma in Arts during a year in which she represented Australia at London's IAAF World Championships.
The scholarship provides a cash award of $10,000 per year, as well as additional in-kind support. All students who are studying or applying to study at the University of Melbourne are eligible to apply.
Applications for 2018 will close on Tuesday 30 January 2018 and all students or potential students applying for sports scholarship support using this form and specialising in the sport of athletics will be automatically considered for the Buxton scholarship.
