Three University of Melbourne students will compete in the Meiji-Jingu University Criteriums in Tokyo on 10 March 2019, the final round of the Japanese University Road Race Cup Series.
Bachelor of Science student Emma Chilton will represent the University on the world stage for a second time, after having competed at the World University Games in Portugal last August.
“I am looking forward to racing again after a little break due to getting my tonsils removed and seeing where I stack up against competitors from other universities at an international level,” said the 20-year-old.
Chilton comes into the event off the back of a strong 2018, having finished 2nd in a stage of the Intelligentsia Cup in Chicago (7th overall) and 4th in the U23 Australian Road Championships.
She will be joined by Bachelor of Commerce student Tom Benton and Master of Information Technology student David Randall.
Benton starred in the 2019 Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic in February, taking out first place in the U21 division.
Randall earned a top-10 finish in the 2018 Amy’s Otway Tour, and is in the leadership team of the Butterfields–Appselec p/b Van D’am Racing team in the National Road Series.
