Come and Play for the University
Participating in sports for The University of Melbourne, whether through UniSport Australia events or other competitions, is an excellent way to enhance your student experience.
Intervarsity sport is competition between two universities. We select the best student athletes for our Intervarsity teams, and then compete against other Universities in head to head or National competitons. You are required to be a student registered in the current academic year to qualify, but you do not need to play for our clubs. To recieve more information please complete the form below.

The following details outline all the Intervarsity opportunities for 2025
Semester 1 - Intervarsity Events 2025
If you want to represent the University in our Intervarsity program against other Australian Universities, then sign up at this event, and talk to our team on sporting volunteers. The Intervarsity program is coordinated along side our sporting clubs, but you do not have to be a member of our clubs to be involved.
Date: Monday 24th Feb 2024
Time: 11am-3pm
The Big Blue encapsulates the sporting rivalry between Victoria’s two largest Universities, Melbourne and Monash.
Rivals on and off the sporting field, the matches are played at Melbourne’s Parkville Campus or Monash’s Clayton Campus during Semester and offer a chance for students to represent their University in a local and competitive setting, at no cost.
A winner is declared at the conclusion of Semester 2 when the head-to-head results are tallied up.
This is the fixture will be contested between Men's T20 Cricket team, held on Melbourne Uni Oval, Parkville Campus.

This is the first fixture for 2025 and will be contested between Men's and Women's Basketball. Match will be held on Melbourne Uni Parkville Campus.

In 2025, Swimming will be contested in men's and women's events at the 2025 Sydney Open at Sydney Olympic Park, NSW. Multi-class events will also be offered.
3x3 Basketball
In 2025, 3x3 Basketball will be hosted from 27-29 May, and will be contested in both men's and women's competitions.
The competition is due to be held at Monash University.

Now referred to as Indigenous Nationals, the event is a week-long multi-sport competition for indigenous student-athletes. The annual event aims to bring together student-athletes from universities across Australia to compete in a variety of sports and ultimately crown one university team the champion of the games. Indigenous Nationals is an amazing environment to not only celebrate the rich sporting culture of indigenous Australia but to also acknowledge the heritage and history of the participating student-athletes.
Semester 2 - Intervarsity Events
The University Basketball League Australia (UBL) is a nationwide competition between the best eleven women's and men's basketball teams. The competition is played over an epic eight-week battle, culminating in a two-week final series.

2024 Men's Melbourne University lost to Sydney Uni in the semi finals
2024 Women's Melbourne University finished 9th from 14 teams.

UniSport Nationals provide an opportunity for student-athletes at our 42 member universities from across Australia to compete head to head in a number of national standard sporting competitions.
Nationals are comprised of our flagship event, UniSport Nationals, and a number of standalone national championships throughout the year.The winners from each sport in UniSport Nationals will be combined with the winners of the various Nationals Championships throughout the year to name one university the Overall Nationals Champions.
